Spin September 1993

Spin has been a steaming pile of shit for a good 10 years now, but I discovered a lot of indie labels through their ads in the early 90’s.

My family had a post-office box in Detroit, and I joined BMG music club like 10 times. In Canada you could only get Columbia House, which was get 12 cds and then have to buy 10 more over the next 2 years or something like that but with the BMG Music Club in the US, you’d get 8 cd’s for the price of 1 and then you could cancel. They always had these deals though, where you’d get 3 cds for the price of 1 so it was still worth it to stay on.

I think within a couple of years I had every single cd that BMG’s club offered in their “Alternative” section.
