Valentines Show

January 30, 2009

I just saw the poster for the Bang-Bangs Valentines Show at Mitzi’s Sister outside my office! It was drawn by Fiona Smyth.

The Bon will also be playing and Nick Flanagan will be doing some stand-up comedy.

Bill Hicks on Letterman

January 30, 2009

I finally got a copy of Daft Punk’s – Electroma in the mail yesterday. It’s an amazing movie and I haven’t seen it since we were doing screenings a couple of summers ago. I can’t wait to watch it again.

Bill Hicks mom Mary is appearing on David Letterman tonight. I watched this dvd for the first time a couple of months ago. Some of the material is great, and some hasn’t aged well, but that’s what happens when you’re a trailblazer. Dennis Leary has been accused of ripping off Bill Hicks’ persona and stealing huge chunks of his material. Hicks himself was one of the people who felt that way.

Bill Hicks appeared on Letterman in Oct 2003 for the 12th time, 5 months before he died of cancer. His entire routine was cut from the show, which is the first time that had ever happened to a comedian on Letterman, and Hicks was really pissed about it. On the dvd I have Letterman says he regrets that things were never settled between him and Bill before he died. The routine, or at least parts of it are planned to air for the first time tonight. I’ve got a date with the Church of Santo Daime at 5:30, but I hope I’m home by 11:30 to watch it.

Here’s his Positive Drug Experience routine.

Where Snow and Fireball bring Rest

I went tobogganing with Jon and Melissa in Trinity Bellwoods Park last night.

Michelle Remembers

January 29, 2009

I’ll going to do a draw for some prizes at my movie night on Wednesday. One of the prizes is a copy of Michelle Remembers. It’s a cross between Rosemary’s Baby and Sybil. Based in Victoria BC, released in 1980 it was THE book that sparked the moral panic surrounding Satanic Ritual Abuse during the 80’s. It claimed to be based on true events but was eventually discredited as fiction.

I’ll also be giving away this one-of-a-kind 2′ x 3′ Count Duckula and Geraldo poster that I had printed in the summer.

Narduwar vs Slayer. Slayer learned to hot-knife in Toronto. I’ve never hot-knifed.

Feb 21st – Xeno’s Inferno Screening @ Trash Palace

January 28, 2009

I’ve proud to announce that I’ll be presenting the first ever Toronto screening of eccentric genius Christian Sfalcin’s Xeno’s Inferno at the Trash Palace on Saturday Feb 21st. Christian and his brother Marshall will be coming up to do a Q & A after the film. Tickets are $5 and will be available next week at Eyesore Cinema @ Queen Street West and Manning.

This movie was shot in Windsor from 1998 to 2004, had giant sets, elaborate costumes, dozens of exras and an orgy scene in lava. I think this movie is fucking awesome and has never had an official release on dvd so this is your chance to see it! Here’s some stills from the movie.

(insert name here) and I threw a VICE party at Christian’s place in Windsor during summer of 2006. Christian is a full time artist and somewhat of a celebrity around Windsor but to my knowledge isn’t well known anywhere else. He lives in a former YMCA by himself so has room to make sculptures, paintings, movie sets and does a haunted house in the basement for Halloween. These pictures I took don’t do the place justice.

I’ll have a trailer up in the next couple of weeks, but for now here’s a video shot at Christian’s place talking about the film with Gavin Booth while doing some re-edits. (Ignore the corny intro music.)
