the Secret Band and Demons Claws are playing their next 3 shows starting in Ottawa tonight, Montreal tomorrow and a record release show on Saturday here in Toronto at Sneaky Dees! I’m pretty excited for Saturday!
Here’s the cover of the new record. I guarantee all 500 copies are going to be sold out by this Sunday. The other pic is Jon and Jeff on the patio of Ronnie’s after we set up the Demons Blog show at *Hotshot.
Jeff played keys for Red Mass at the Silver Dollar show last Saturday.
And now, for the first time ever, I present the controversial banned video of Demons Claws playing in the basement of 159 Manning in Songs From A Room’s practice space at 5:30am after their Fucked Up weekend show on Halloween. Screams were stifled, fists were clenched, angry blog comments were made. Remember, you saw it here first!
SFAR were pretty bummed the next day that we used their gear without asking. Those guys are very particular about their gear and based on this Practice Space interview that Jon did with Demons Claws on VBS, I can see why they were worried. I tried to make it up to them the next day by making a video for them (in the same practice space, no less!). 4086 views on youtube and 4283 views on myspace video to date!
Our intern Patrick was sent an old but un-used Tosbax Sonic Jacket and a vest with speakers in them from the 80’s. Guess who’s jealous?
Songs From A Room played at the Horseshoe on Sunday night, and got a slobbering rave review from Jen Ford on blogT.O. today. I think she’s the photographer in the bottom right corner below. I also think she has a crush on Nick Bechard.
She missed the first band of the night, You Call Yourself Soldiers, whose set I missed myself since I’d come on SFAR’s invitation and didn’t look beforehand at who else was playing. When they were loading out their gear at the end of the night I recognized 3 of the 5 guys in the band and felt like a dick for missing their set. Shittyyyyy. Next time!
I’ll have an article up on Aux.tv shortly about Songs From A Room’s gear, a tribute to the guitar magazines of my youth.
I met up with Rich Terfry aka Buck 65 and his fiance Emily at their place last night for some headshots. I’d never met either of them before, but they’re both down to earth and friendly. We seem to have a lot in common, so it was fun! The body of work he’s created over the years is impressive, read his wikipedia entry if you don’t believe me. The only way to get a body of work like that is by always pushing and working your ass off. I for one, am impressed.
Here’s 5 of the photos I took last night:
Rich is collaborating on an album called Bike For Three with Joëlle Phuong Minh Lê, who lives in Belgium, that’ll be released by Anticon. More info here on Bloggertronix.
Rich and Joelle have never met in person so I was trying to take photos that’ll match up with ones he’d been sent of her, a couple of which I’ve posted below. How’d I do?
Here’s the video for Wicked and Weird from his 2003 album Honky Talkin’ Blues.
